"The Mahakali Caves" - KondiviteCaves @ Andheri (E)

These are a group of 19 rock-cut monument built between 1st century BCE and 6th century CE.

This Buddhist monastery consists of two groups of rock-cut #caves - 4 caves more to the north-west and 15 caves more to the south-east.

The caves are located on a hill that overlooks the Jogeshwari - Vikhroli Link Road and the SEEPZ++ area.

ASI is doing decent job of conservation as Caves are carved out of a solid black BasaltaRock, (volcanic trap breccias, prone to weathering). Albeit much needs to be desired regarding providing amenities, cleanliness and infrastructure so as to attract more tourists.

Monuments like this have an important place in our history. It's our duty to play our part to protect these and restore our lost glory. However, it's a sorry state of affairs as far as how we Indians treat our heritage.
